For those without access to the BPAL.org forums, here ya go!
No description. This scent was available to VIP guests at a special reception with Neil Gaiman at the NYC Comic Con 2008 as a fundraiser for the CBLDF. After the VIP meet&greet, he read for the general admission crowd a selection of pieces including an unreleased short story titled “Orange”. This scent set was create to go with the story.
Orange is actually a set. An orange burlap bag contained a 5 ml of Orange, and an imp of Dark Chocolate.

The imp label reads: “Inspired by Neil Gaiman’s short story “Orange”. Use this to feed your perfume. (Inedible for humans, please use only to feed supernatural orange lifeforms!)”
(I’m not going to give away the story. It’s one of those that you have to read or hear to fully experience. I’m sure youtube will have tonight’s reading at some point!)
Orange: Not surprisingly, it smells like orange! But it’s a soft orange, more like orange sherbet. In fact I almost think it’s creamy, especially in the drydown, and reminds me of an orange creamsicle. No obvious cream notes that I can tell, it’s just soft and not a harsh citrus at all.
Dark Chocolate: This is that magic ingredient in Wulric and Boomslang. Like those, the dark part separates out – I can’t tell how much is the dark oil because the label covers the imp, but it seems more like Boomslang in color once it’s mixed up and put on. Not bitter chocolate, just a dark creamy cocoa, it’s wonderful.
Together: Should I lie and say it’s horrible? You know it’s not true. It’s the perfect blend of orange and chocolate. sweet but not candylike. soft and refreshing.
It’s a fairly straight forward scent meaning that you probably know if you like orange, and chocolate, and I doubt this would change your existing opinions on it either way. But it is beautifully executed, especially how the orange is soft and refreshing at the same time.
I tried both on together before Neil got around to me at the reception. I told him I put both on together, and he sniffed my wrist! then he said another girl had only tried the orange, and he made her come over and sniff too!
Hours later, I got in my car after taking the ferry home and taking photos of the NY skyline with an almost full moon. My wrist was faint (I tested sparingly) but just wonderfully soft, barely orange as you usually know it, but leaving the impression of orange as a concept, with a hint of dark chocolate.
Love Neil, love “Orange”, it was a fabulous night!
(More photos posted to my flickr account)
ETA: it’s possible there’s a subtle floral in here, maybe orange blossom? I have no idea. But I’m not huge on strong florals, and it’s not strong floral… I hope more discerning noses can help me later…
My money last night went to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. If you think no one needs to defend comic books, read the update at the top of Neil’s journal, and the video clip at the bottom of the entry!

Just the usual Friday night… NOT! ;o)
This was in my office yesterday. OK so it may have been 2 degrees cooler where I sit, but still.

oh. my. god.
impulsive? me? nah.
so you know I love Neil Gaiman. (stalker love. pretty much. although I’m polite about it and respect his privacy. usually.)
so you know I love/am addicted to this crazy perfume line. (Found them through someone else actually. But the creator knows Neil, enough that she’s collaborated with him and there are scents inspired by his stories for sale, benefiting the CBLDF – a great group that’s about protecting the freedom of speech.)
there have been times when it’s announced that there’s an exclusive BPAL scent for some event, and it’s difficult or impossible to get on the second hand market because of the small production and great demand.
I found out today that people who bought a VIP pass to a reception with Neil at NYC Comicon before his reading/auction for CBLDF, there’s a goody bag.
A goody bag with all sorts of amazing stuff, including a hand drawing by Neil, his autograph, a T shirt, a scent locket from BPAL, some of the BPAL scents that are up for sale already… and an exclusive one. For his new piece, “Orange”.
And then I was trying to purchase a $500 ticket to see my lover favorite author. and the site wasn’t letting me. Customer service had just gone home, and the site said ticket sales end at midnight tonight. I emailed/called every email address/phone number I could find, for Comicon, CBLDF, everyone.
Finally I reached Joe. Joe was at the event office and said he’d help me. He called back a few minutes later, but apparently we miscommunicated about which VIP pass (not the EVENT VIP, but for Neil’s reception). A bit later, Alison calls me. A VIP ticket has been set aside and is waiting for me tomorrow afternoon/evening.
Is it worth $500? If it were just for the reception with Neil, no. (Sorry dear! Remember stalking is free, except for the bail…) If it were just for the exclusive perfume? no. But together? With a T-shirt from his shop, a locket (which runs $70 on its own, and I’ll either keep or resell depending on which one it is), an original drawing, and possibly MORE? On a night I had nothing concrete planned, located 30-45 minutes from me, and doesn’t require missing any work (thanks to the overtime I put in last week, I can leave an hour early)?
Oh fuck yeah, it’s worth it.
Stealing this idea again from people on tribe. I’m always trying to invite all my friends to things I do, but I assume some people are on the same lists I am, or I forget that someone expressed interest in joining me… So here’s important dates coming up, where I’ll be, and whether you can come too and how ;o) Don’t tell me I never tell you about these things!

The days of relaxed internet use at work are coming to an end….
A new firewall installed today. So far, most of the most-visited sites are still working. Obviously myspace and facebook aren’t.
But what hurts most is Tribe.net is blocked. 😦 that’s my burner headquarter central!! never had that blocked before.
I’m devastated. If they take away gmail, wordpress, my veggie board, the tavern, bpal……. I’ll have nothing left. Except that W word that they expect us to do while in this building. 😦
I had great rides to and from Philly yesterday. Great meditative/philosophical thoughts that I wish I could have blogged or written while I was driving. But I couldn’t. Oh well.
Expect more blogs. Off to see what other damage the firewall does to my social life….
